I was born and raised in Puebla. Mexico. I specialize in environmental racism, ecological grief, mestizaje, state violence, and anti/ de-colonial feminism in Latin America. My work intersects between race, gender, environment, and affect.
I am currently working on my manuscript “Grieving Geographies, Mourning Waters: Race, Gender, and Environment on the Coast of Oaxaca, Mexico”, winner of the 2021 NWSA/ University of Illinois Press, First Book Prize. An ethnographical and geographical feminist work about an ecocide happening in the Chacahua-Pastoría Lagoons and the grief felt by ecological and human loss.
I am also an Assistant Professor of Latin American and Latino Studies at DePaul University.
Outside of my research, writing, and teaching, I vinyl DJ around different geographies and events.
Nací y crecí en Puebla. México. Me especializo en racismo ambiental, mestizaje, duelo ecológico, violencia de estado y feminismo anti/descolonial en América Latina. Mi trabajo se cruza entre la raza, el género, el medio ambiente y el afecto. Actualmente estoy trabajando en mi manuscrito “Grieving Geographies, Mourning Waters: Race, Gender, and Environment on the Coast of Oaxaca, Mexico”, ganador del 2021 NWSA/University of Illinois Press, First Book Prize. Un trabajo feminista etnográfico y geográfico sobre un ecocidio ocurrido en las Lagunas de Chacahua-Pastoría en Oaxaca y el duelo por la pérdida ecológica y humana. También soy profesore asistente de Estudios Latinoamericanos y Latinos en DePaul University. Fuera de mi investigación, escritura y enseñanza, pincho viniles como DJ en diferentes geografías y eventos.
